Description
An elegant walking cane from the Russian Empire, created at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, representing a refined example of Art Nouveau decorative arts. Its harmonious proportions, restrained silhouette and expressive silver handle reflect the period's aspiration to unite practicality with the aesthetics of fine craftsmanship. The L-shaped handle is decorated with a finely executed repousse ornament composed of flowing, organic lines characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The carefully finished surface enhances the sculptural quality of the decoration, while the dark polished wooden shaft provides a harmonious contrast with the silver mount, reinforcing the distinguished appearance of the piece. Walking canes of this type formed an essential element of the wardrobe of affluent members of Russian society at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century. Beyond their practical purpose, they served as refined accessories that reflected the owner's social standing, impeccable taste and appreciation of contemporary artistic trends. Hallmarks: Russian Imperial state assay mark depicting the profile of a maiden in a kokoshnik facing left, 84 silver standard. Hallmark in use between 1899 and 1909. Dimensions: Height: 84 cm. Width: 9.5 cm. Condition: Good condition. The cane retains its original construction. The wooden shaft displays an attractive age patina and minor signs of use consistent with its age.
