Description
-Edition 48/200
-This is one of a series of six tapestries Calder created to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The elements within Calder's La poire, le fromage, et le serpent are rich with symbolic meaning, typical of his ability to imbue abstract forms with deeper resonance. Spirals, a recurring motif in Calder's work, visually convey dynamism, representing growth, cycles, and continuous flow. The sinuous serpent, a multifaceted symbol, introduces themes of transformation, wisdom, or primal nature. Finally, the "pear" and "cheese" forms, while abstract, ground the composition in playful everyday objects, characteristic of Calder's whimsical spirit and his knack for elevating the mundane into art. Together, these elements create a characteristic Calder tableau, inviting viewers to engage with both universal archetypes and a unique, personal narrative. - More Information
