Hand-painted Japanese silk scroll entitled 'Early Spring' depicting a cavalryman in intricately detailed armor returning home on his horse with his private infantry support by his side, symbolizing the re-emergence of nature from the hardships of winter. Note how the figures are at the bottom of the scroll with a big sky above, enhancing the drama of the composition. Dated in formal Japanese characters '1921'. Mounted in original hand-embossed leather frame with blossom decoration.
