Description
A grand framed needlepoint tapestry of the nuptial celebration and crowning of a Turkish Panguian (Sultana) in the Royal Courtyard presumably at the Topkapi Palace of the Sultan; overlooking the Bosphorous. The depicted event likely took place prior to 1856, after which the Royal Court was moved to Dolmabahcle by the Sultan Abdul Mecid I. The Sultan and principal Courtier are both bejeweled, with clear faceted 'jewels' stitched into their pendants. The needlework and frame appear to date from the mid to late 19th century; when such decorative elements were prevalent in England as well as on the Continent.
