This beautiful bowl is a superb example of Chinese export ware designed for an Islamic market. The bowl is crafted from bronze and is parcel gilt, with gilding accenting its rim, feet, and handles. The surface of the bowl is profusely decorated with cloisonné enamel work, with multicoloured enamels wrought into a variety of scrolling, floral forms. The front and the back of the bowl feature gilded cartouches, each of which contains an embossed Arabic inscription. The underside is marked in Chinese script for the maker. -
