Description
A magnificent large decorative and serving bowl designed and handcrafted by Emilia Castillo, one of Mexico’s most important contemporary designers working in porcelain and silver. Produced in Taxco, Mexico, this striking piece exemplifies Castillo’s artistry, where nature and craftsmanship meet in perfect balance.
The bowl is crafted in fine porcelain and richly inlaid with pure silver (plata pura). The surface is decorated with whimsical swirling vines, heart-shaped leaves, and delicate blossoms, creating an elegant natural flow across the interior and exterior. Three finely worked butterflies in silver relief — two inside and one gracefully placed on the outside — complete the composition, evoking a sense of movement and lightness.
Signed “Emilia Castillo, Plata Pura, Mexico, D”, this piece reflects Castillo’s celebrated family tradition of master silversmithing, rooted in the legendary Taxco design movement. Her work is internationally admired for combining modern design sensibilities with the centuries-old heritage of Mexican decorative arts.
This bowl is not only a functional serving piece but also a museum-quality decorative object suitable for display in luxury interiors. It makes an ideal statement centerpiece on a dining table, console, or entryway, and it speaks directly to collectors of Mexican art, silverwork, and contemporary design.
