Emilia Castillo

Emilia Castillo (born 1954) is a celebrated contemporary Mexican designer, silversmith, and ceramicist based in the historic silver-mining town of Taxco, Mexico. Raised in the workshops of her father, Don Antonio Castillo—co-founder of the iconic Los Castillo studio—she mastered traditional metalworking under the guidance of elite master craftsmen. Castillo famously transformed the Taxco silver tradition by merging fine craftsmanship with sculptural modernism. Her whimsical, nature-inspired creations seamlessly blend pure silver and silver plate with porcelain, glass, and rich semi-precious stone inlays like malachite, lapis lazuli, turquoise, and onyx. Highly collected worldwide, her functional art features recurring organic motifs, including lizards, toucans, butterflies, and dragonflies. Today, her limited-production tableware, decorative objects, and wearable jewelry sculptures represent the pinnacle of modern Mexican decorative arts and remain highly sought after by top interior designers and global collectors.
