Description
This Majolica bowl, in the shape of the bottom half of a clam shell, has an aqua exterior and a rose pink interior, and it sits on three brown sea-snail feet. There are no markings, which places this piece in production after 1883 when the English Registry mark was no longer required for pottery, and before 1891 when the country of origin had to be indicated. The detailing is realistic and the nautical colors are cheerfull and soothing. The pink color is slightly paler than how it appears in some of the darker photographs.
The naturalistic modeling reflects the English 19th century taste and its fascination with Nature. This delightful bowl can blend in with any style of décor. It would make a terrific center piece on a summer table, or as a display piece on a shelf to emphasize other colorful items in the room. -
