Underside impressed 'F. NOVICK.'
Falick Novick (1878-1958) was a metalworker known for his work in copper who emigrated from Russia to New York in 1893 as a teenager. In 1907 he moved to Chicago and soon opened his own metalworking shop with his wife Tillie Novick. While in Chicago, he worked as an instructor at Hull-House, a social settlement influenced by the principals of the International Arts & Crafts movement. Among various initiatives, Hull-House promoted craft traditions of the immigrant community in Chicago in the late 19th and early 20th century. Novick was also commissioned to produce works for the Kalo Shop in Chicago, and was particularly recognized for his trays. -
