Description
Collection of five American silver and glass coasters by Frank M. Whiting & Co.
American, Early 20th Century
Height 3cm, diameter 10cm
A refined set of five sterling silver and glass coasters crafted in America by the renowned silversmiths Frank M. Whiting & Co. The firm, founded in 1866 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, rose to prominence as one of the country’s foremost producers of fine silver. Known for its craftsmanship and elegant designs, the company created high-quality flatware, hollowware, and decorative wares that remain highly regarded by collectors today.
Each coaster is circular in shape, featuring a clear glass base intricately cut with a radiant sunburst motif. The edges are encircled with sterling silver mountings - sleek in their simplicity, with one example embellished by a subtle beaded border that adds a touch of variation and sophistication.
The undersides are all impressed with the maker’s mark ‘Frank M. Whiting & Co. / Sterling / 04 / Pat. Pending’.
Balancing practical function with decorative appeal, this charming set of American coasters is not only useful at the table but also represents the fine tradition of early 20th century silverware design. -
