Description
A centerpiece ceramic footed bowl of impressive size by California potter James Lovera (1920-2015), likely made in early 2000s. The bowl is covered completely in a black metallic lava glaze, which the artist was most famously known. The glaze is also known as crater glaze for their appearances. Both interior and exterior surfaces feature this fascinating glaze. Being in purely black and with embedded tiny silver metallic pieces that flicks and sparkles under the light in different angles, the obsidian like texture resembles the lava and adds an additional aethetic dimension to the piece. The photos can't catch that subtly and it has to be beheld in person.
At over 17 inches in diameter and with its minimalistic form and intriguing texture, this bowl makes a perfect modern bespoken center piece.
James Lovera (1920-2015) was an American potter in California. He is known for his delicately potted bowls with signature glazes ranging from smooth mirror like surface to texturized lava effects.
