Decanter and Glasses by Karl Palda with Black Modernist Pattern
Item #3772
This is an original Art Deco decanter set by Karl Palda, the maestro of Czechoslovakian glass design. This distinctive decanter features an oversized round pouring spout and a matching domed stopper. The decanter boasts a striking bulbous design, while the glasses echo its modernist black motifs, creating a harmonious ensemble. The unusual-shaped glasses are rare to find. There is also an original label on the decanter. It was most likely never used.
Decanter sets from the 1920s and 1930s epitomize the sophisticated Art Deco era and make a stunning addition to any discerning collection. The Deco crystal and glassworks of Bohemia were so advanced. Their history dates back to the 13th Century in the Bohemian region of Haida/ Novy Bor. The things they produced in the 1920s and 30s were at the forefront of cubism and the avant-garde. Crystal glassware like this was why Czechoslovakia was second only to France in the number of medals and awards won at the 1925 Exposition des Artes Decorative in Paris (from which the term Art Deco was born ).
