Description
Twelve parcel gilt Bohemian porcelain dinner plates by P.A.L.T
Czech, Early 20th Century
Height 2.5cm, diameter 27cm
This rare set of early 20th Century porcelain dinner plates is perhaps the finest work of the little-known Porzellanfabrik Adolf Lauer based in Trnovany, Czech Republic (then called Turn-Teplitz, in Bohemia). Featuring ornately and intricately decorated gilt bands around their edges, the plates are also each adorned with a expertly painted depiction of a bouquet of flowers on white ground in their centre.
Each plate is stamped to the underside with the mark for Porzellanfabrik Adolf Lauer, reading 'P.A.L.T. / CZECHOSLOVAKIA', with a depiction of the celebrated Classical discus thrower sculpture, Discobolus in the centre.
