Brutalistic Pottery Bowl by Artist and Sculptor Reinhart R. Wolke

An exceptional and powerful Brutalist studio pottery bowl by German sculptor and artist Reinhart Wolke, created in the 1960s. This monumental centerpiece showcases a heavily textured, hand-sculpted stoneware body with a deliberately irregular, organic form. The wide rim is finished in a deep, mottled cobalt and midnight blue glaze that beautifully frames the shallow, textured well. The interior basin features a contrasting off-white slip accented with natural iron-spotting and raw, earth-toned specks. In excellent vintage condition with an authentic, weathered patina and normal characteristics of hand-fired studio ceramics. Reinhart R. Wolke (1934–2005) was a prominent German sculptor, painter, and ceramicist. In 1963, he studied sculpture at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Robert Jacobsen and refined his clay craftsmanship under master potter Franz Eska. During the late 1960s, Wolke regularly exhibited at the Große Kunstausstellung in Munich's Haus der Kunst. In 1989, he relocated to Java, Indonesia, adopting the name Robiyan. His rare, 20th-century art furniture pieces are highly sought after by collectors for their raw Brutalist materiality, textured earth tones, and striking visual vitality.
