  • Description
    Rare Japanese sterling silver asparagus tongs. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1875. U-form; terminals with low-relief stylized ornament: Perched birds, flowers, and cattails. Interlaced script monogram at end. Fluted stems in rectangular frame. Blades shaped and rectangular with pierced leaves; one blade flat and the other narrow and concave. A desirable serving piece in this pattern, which was designed by Edward C. Moore, who was a connoisseur and scholar of Japanese art. It was in production from 1871 to before 1904, and was revived as Audubon in the 1950s. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and patent year (1871). Very good condition.
