Description
Antique Chinese brocade dragon panel from Imperial Qing Dynasty circa 19th century, beautifully presented with a linen mat and in a silvered wood shadow frame, is presented as an impressive piece of textile art. The finely woven brocade was a fabric designated for the use of the imperial court as it features patterns of five-clawed dragon, reserved exclusively for the emperor. It was likely woven in one of an imperial studios in Southern China where several weaving centers were located. The intricate textile is of a sober color pallet and features chains of hexagon shape in which dragons of alternative large and small sizes were centered. In the ones with smaller dragon, four auspicious symbols were used as surround, including the coins and svatikas. The impressive designs were complex with details, but somehow achieved a visual harmony. A fine example.
