Description
A set of three antique textile fragments from China, circa 18-19th century Qing dynasty, professionally displayed in matching giltwood frames as a triptych. Originally they adorned the "patch work" robe, worn by actors for opera performance. Satin, couching and forbidden stitches were used to create the floral design with auspicious symbols.
The gilt frames are identical in size; The colors of the mats was designed to complement each embroideries which vary slightly in sizes themselves, but together they hang beautifully together as a group.
Provenance: Purchased from Norton's Oriental Galleries in Newport, Rhode Island. Fully labeled with notes on the back as shown. -

Giltwood frames show some minor wear on surface as expected.
