A Songye Power Figure From Congo
-
Description
A Songye Power figure displayed on stand, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, likely mid 20th century. The statue displays a good amount of patina and age. Eyes are inlaid with a zinc-like metal and nose with a brass plate, inset with small discs all over the bodies and decorated with feathers. The neck is coiled and pasted with a substance. It appears to be an authentic piece collected from the field and used as a small personal ritual item, but it is not clear of its provenance as an estate found.
It is 17 inch high without the base. -
