A framed late 19th century oil on canvas barn painting depicting hens, chicks, a rooster and ducks. Born in the 19th century, this exquisite oil on canvas painting of horizontal format features a grouping of hens and ducks roaming around a central rooster who is proudly keeping an eye on its surroundings. Bathed in a golden light, the composition is gently focusing our attention on a tipped over bucket that is proving to be a comfortable shelter to a hen and her baby chicks. Our eye is then lead to the horizontal beam on which two birds are perched, a detail perfectly highlighted by the luminous golden sky of the background. Heartwarming and humble all at once, this giltwood framed 19th century oil on canvas painting will bring a touch of authenticity to any home decor, perhaps hung above a commode, buffet or console table.
