Description
This charming set of six French Art Deco greeting cards, produced by J. Cambray in Paris circa 1925, features a striking illustration of a modern young flapper gazing into a hand mirror as she touches up her lipstick—a perfect symbol of feminine glamour and independence during the Jazz Age. Rendered in black ink via letterpress and then vividly hand-colored using the pochoir stencil technique, each card captures the distinctive palette and precision that made pochoir so prized during the 1920s and early 1930s.
Pochoir, meaning "stencil" in French, was a labor-intensive process requiring teams of women to hand-apply each color layer—a method favored by high-end Parisian illustrators, fashion houses, and publishers during the Art Deco period. These cards are not mass-produced ephemera; they are tiny, frame-worthy works of art that reflect the exquisite detail and craftsmanship of the time.
Each card is gently foldable and can be used traditionally, or trimmed and matted for display in a small frame. Whether used for gifting or decorating, they are a rare and evocative glimpse into the elegance of 1925 Paris.
