Description
Henrik Allert Horse Head Wall Sculpture, Sweden, c. 1995
Glazed earthenware
17 h × 11 w × 9½ d in. (43 × 28 × 24 cm)
A striking wall-mounted horse head sculpture by acclaimed Swedish artist and ceramicist Henrik Allert. Executed in glazed earthenware, the work exemplifies Allert’s highly recognizable artistic language, combining expressive modeling with a powerful sense of presence and spirituality. The elongated form, textured surface, and rich glaze treatment reflect the artist’s enduring fascination with animal subjects, particularly horses, which remained a central motif throughout his career.
Born in Skövde, Sweden, Allert studied at the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg before working with the renowned Rörstrand porcelain factory as a freelance designer. He gained international recognition for his sculptural depictions of animals, human figures, and ritualistic forms, characterized by tactile surfaces, organic shapes, and an expressive approach to ceramic material. His work is represented in major collections, including the Nationalmuseum, the Museum of Modern Art, and various Swedish diplomatic collections worldwide.
This example features a triangular metal bracket mounted on the reverse for secure wall installation.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks observed. Minor firing and glazing marks are inherent to the artist’s production process and consistent with the nature of the medium. -
