Description
“La Merienda” written at the bottom of this cartoon, refers to a light meal served between lunch and dinner. At the top is written “Goya”, which pertains to the known Spanish artist, one of the greatest Old Masters. In 1775 he was employed by the Royal Tapestry Factory in Madrid to design a series of tapestries that were in production for fifteen years. Signed at the bottom is “A. Minguez”, who is believed to be one of Goya’s students painting cartoons as tapestry models for the master. This cartoon has been recently framed and backed to support this 18th century work of art.
