  • Description
Still Life of Fruit in a Compote with Cake.
Oil on slate stone. In a period gilt frame.
    Excellent condition, untouched.
    Provenance: Private collection, Connecticut.

The work is prepared on a rare and impressive large-size piece of slate which serves as a medium for this wonderful still life. Although not identified, the composition and quality of the work suggests the painting was created by an accomplished artist.

Blue slate was more commonly found in New England and New York State where we believe this to have been painted.
