ANNA MARY ROBERTSON “GRANDMA” MOSES
(1860–1961)
Winter Sports, 1947
Tempera and glitter on masonite, 21½ × 27½ inches
Mrs. Stephen C. Clark (1889–1967) of Cooperstown, New York, acquired this work from Galerie St. Etienne in 1948, the year after it was painted. It was given to her son Alfred Corning Clark II (1916–1961), who gave it to his wife. The Clarks, who made their fortune through the Singer Sewing Machine Co., were major philanthropists and art collectors.
The painting has never been offered for sale since its initial purchase. -
