Description
Bob Peak may be the heir to Norman Rockwell in portraying the American Scene. Yet Peak's graphic representations depart from Rockwell's tight academic style. In the present work from 1959, innovation is on display with pushed, over-statured color and a quick and loose rendering style that captures the moment's spontaneity. In today's ultra-contemporary fine art market, we see many "hot" artists using many of the same techniques Peak invented over 65 years ago but less successfully. Signed upper right. Provenance: Illustration House. Published: Cosmopolitan Magazine. The work looks better in person and is surprisingly large for a magazine illustration.
