Buket Savci
Girlfriends, 2022
Oil on paper
22 x 22 inches
Signed, titled and dated verso
Buket Savci is a Turkish American artist living and working out of Brooklyn, NY. After immigrating to New York in 2006, she received her BFA in painting from Pratt Institute in 2010, an MFA from New York Academy of Art in 2012.
Her hyperrealistic works evolved from personal displacement crisis, to capturing the universal emotional state of the current global social and environmental issues. Through bright colors and playful settings, she conveys radical love and emotions. While using childlike subjects, such as inflatable tubes, in her paintings as a metaphor for being carefree and innocent, there is an underlying struggle of immigrant facing isolation, injustice and inequality. While emphasizing on celebration of togetherness and trust, her work also explores the definitions of freedom and happiness.
She was awarded Grand Prize for See. Me “Represent” and Dave Bown Projects Competition, Peoples Choice Award of Jonathan LeVine Projects’s Delusional Art Competition and Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason Painting Fellowship at Vermont Studio Center. She had residencies at LMCC Art Center Residency Program in Governors island, NT, ChaNorth in Pine Plains, NT and Pilotenkueche in Leipzig, Germany. Her works has been featured at Mansur Museum of Art in Monroe, LA, Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wasau, WI, The Immigrant Artist Biennial, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, Art on Paper Art Show in New York, NY, Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo, Palermo, Italy, and Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair in Istanbul, Turkey. -
