Description
‘Out of the Blue’
Acrylic and plaster paste on canvas
71×91 cm
First the canvas is primed with gesso, and several layers of the base coat are applied. When I am satisfied that there is enough depth to the colour, I start to sculpt the actual roses onto the painted canvas using a flexible plaster paste. The sculpted roses are then primed individually with gesso and painted with high-quality, heavy-body acrylic paint. The resulting relief has a highly 3-dimensional feel.
These pink roses are a modern bush rose that I inherited in my current garden (possibly ‘Queen Elizabeth’). I was lying in the garden on one perfect summer day, looking up at them against an extraordinarily blue sky, and they appeared to somewhat float against this background. And that it how the idea for this painting came to me.
This painting is on canvas and does not necessarily require framing.
The painting has several coats of a mat varnish for UV and dirt protection.
It is signed and dated on the back.
