'Pergola Roses'
Acrylic and marble plaster on canvas board
50x50 cm
I create the picture first in plaster, made from marble dust and a binding agent. This produces a tangibly dimensional look and feel. After being gessoed, I then paint on this relief with high-quality, heavy-body acrylic paint. The end result is a unique and impactful artwork which tends to draw the viewer in.
I have been drawing or painting roses in some form for over seventy years! I have been growing them in tumbling abundance in my various gardens for over forty years. My grandmother's Arts & Crafts house was covered in them as was my childhood home in Hampshire. So you will see them appear in many of my paintings. They are among my top three loves, the other two being May blossom and wildflower meadows.
This painting is on a canvas-covered board and framed.
The painting has several coats of a satin varnish for UV and dirt protection.
It is signed and dated on the back. -
