Italian Landscape in the Manner of Vernet
-
Description
18th Century oil on canvas of a Mediterranean harbor scene, in the manner of Claude Vernet (1714-89) depicting a fanciful scene with castles and villas in the background, several groups of fishermen on the harbor and on a rock outcropping, the unusual form probably fashioned as part of a boiserie and retaining its original molded and applied gilt frame.
Claude-Joseph Vernet was perhaps the most famous of several artists who painted capriccio landscapes such as the current example. - More Information

Yew Tree House Antiques was launched in 1991, fueled by a passion for collecting the unexpected. Kevin Kleinbardt and Ahna Petersen, with independent backgrounds in furniture and art history respectively, joined forces to focus on pieces with a “soulfulness of character,” as Ahna likes to say.
