Description
Damien Hirst – Skull Spin Painting, 2009
Acrylic on paper, mounted in a museum-grade acrylic case with fluorescent-colored sides.
This vibrant work by Damien Hirst belongs to his renowned Spin Paintings series and was created to celebrate the opening of the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine, on April 25–26, 2009. Conceived as a tribute to spontaneity and the energy of the creative process, Skull Spin Painting perfectly captures Hirst’s fusion of chance, technique, and emotion that defines this body of work.
Produced through a mechanical spinning process, the paint is poured onto the rotating canvas, resulting in dynamic, one-of-a-kind compositions bursting with movement and color. Hirst described the series as a “massive explosion of energy, full of life, color, and optimism.” This particular piece radiates a visceral energy reminiscent of action painting, evoking the spirit of artists like Jackson Pollock, reinterpreted through Hirst’s contemporary lens.
The work is signed on the front and presented in a custom acrylic display case with fluorescent side panels, enhancing its visual impact and offering a sleek, sculptural presence.
A unique original within the Spin Paintings series — an iconic work ideal for collectors of contemporary British art. -
