Montalcino is a hill town and municipality located in the province of Siena, within the Tuscany region of central Italy. It's situated in the Val d'Orcia, near the Crete Senesi, and is known for its production of Brunello di Montalcino wine. The town is approximately 42 kilometers from Siena.
Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1952, David is a 1975 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and a 1998 graduate of the renowned Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1977 David received a grant from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation which enabled him to study painting at The Art Students League of New York. David was a member of the faculty of the Schuler School of Fine Arts from 1999 to 2023 and was a painting instructor at the Mitchell School of Fine Art in Baltimore County, Maryland, from 1998-2008.
In 2001 Les Amis de la Grande Vigne in the medieval city of Dinan, France, invited David to be an artist in residence for the month of October. David’s time in Dinan was the subject of an article in the Breton regional newspaper, Le Petit Bleu and was also the subject of a feature article titled “The Road to Dinan” in American Artist Magazine (March 2003) in American Artist magazine (March, 2003). David was also featured in an American Artist magazine article published in June of 1998 titled “Baltimore Realists” and the Winter, 2005 premier issue of American Workshop Magazine.
David began his career as a surrealist painter and gradually transitioned into the realm of traditional realism. His subjects range from European and American architectural landscapes to still life and the figure.
David’s work has been exhibited at several Salon International Exhibitions sponsored by Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio, Texas, as well as Oil Painters of America national and regional exhibitions. He received the Liquitex Award at the 1999 Oil Painters of America National Exhibition.
David regularly holds instructional workshops in the Hagerstown and Waynesboro area and is sought after as a painting demonstrator. He is currently a member of the Valley Arts Association in Hagerstown, Maryland. -
