Migration Chart - 26 birds

In this compelling 34 x 36"/ 86 x 91 cm work, Debra Ramsay bridges the gap between strict geometric abstraction and rigorous environmental documentation.
Rendered in acrylic and graphite on translucent polyester resin film, the piece acts as a chromatic archive of bird migrations through Central Park. Each precise vertical column translates the specific plumage of a sighted species into a systematic, reductive colour study.

Unlike her purely non-objective panels, this work reveals the intricate, observation-based system behind her colour choices. Ramsay grounds her signature minimalist aesthetic in tangible reality through delicate handwritten field notes—documenting species names, sighting dates, and conservation statuses. The result is both a visually rhythmic geometric composition and a poignant temporal record of urban biodiversity. It serves as a fascinating conceptual key to Ramsay’s broader practice, revealing the deep ecological awareness and data-driven methodology that define her work.
