"View of the Whale" stranded on Nov 4th 1827, east of the port of Ostend, and whose skeleton was offered to his Majesty William Ist, King of the Netherlands, Prince of Orange-Nassau, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, who deigned to accept. The original painting was dedicated to the queen of the Netherlands by the artist Herman Kessels. The print depicting groups of people surrounding the whale with buildings of Ostend in the background. Printmaker Michel Thomas Antoine Van Cuyck. Dutch cost of arms on base of print. Old label from Kennedy Galleries in New York. Re-backed with acid free matting.
