A magnificent altarpiece from the second half of the 17th century. Painting oil on canvas depicts a splendid Madonna with Child among cherubs, a widespread iconographic theme in Italian painting of the period.

The Virgin is seated on a stone throne, wearing a red dress and wrapped in a dark cloak with enchanting drapery. The child is naked in his mother's arms and gazes toward the angels surrounding them. The artwork is clearly inspired by the works of Pietro Perugino, and the artist should be sought among the great Italian painter's followers. The Virgin's sweet, idealized face, the composed composition, and the harmonious forms suggest a 17th-century artist active in central Italy and influenced by the work of the Umbrian Master.

Perfect for those seeking a devotional image of great tenderness and monumental proportions, ideal for a large reception room or private chapel.

Spectacular contemporary frame in carved wood with plant motifs, lacquered and gilded, with some loss of gilding (see photo). An added value of great interest and rarity, an antique frame of this quality and size is highly sought after by international collectors. The painting has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and restoration of the color in some areas. Overall, in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 146 x W 92.5 cm.
