Description
Rare 18th-century Italian painting. Refined oil-on-copper miniature depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Anne, and the Baby Jesus. The two women are seated on a large gilded throne. At the center of the composition, the Child is held by the Madonna while Saint Anne offers Him an apple. This fruit may allude to original sin, which Christ came to redeem. Above, in a luminous sky amidst splendid green drapes, we find the dove of the Holy Spirit, symbol of the Trinity. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality, distinguished by its bright, saturated colors, sumptuous draperies, and extraordinary level of detail. Elegant 20th-century frame in carved and painted wood, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. The artwork has already been restored, with some minor color retouching, but is in overall good condition. Interior dimensions: H 22 x W 16 cm.
