Description
A magnificent Italian painting from the second half of the 19th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, painting depicting a splendid outdoor romantic scene in the Rococo style. In an 18th-century noble garden, a lady pours wine for a gentleman while, on the left, a young servant advances with a silver tray. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality and rich in minute detail, particularly notable are the realistic draping of the clothes and the play of light filtered through the foliage. Signed lower left by the great Italian painter Prospero Piatti (1840-1902). Known for his genre compositions, historical scenes, and subjects inspired by the 18th century, his style is distinguished by narrative elegance, rich color, and attention to detail. (The painting does not currently come with an expertise, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.) A striking contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated, reflecting the sinuous, contoured form of the work's stretcher. The painting is in overall good condition. Internal dimensions: H 78 x W 109 cm.
