    Howard Chandler Christy (1872-1952) is considered one of the most distinguished American illustrators. Christy painted Amelia Earhart, President Calvin Coolidge, Hubert Hoover, General Douglas MacAuthur, to name a few. Late in life he became interested in historical themes and painted this painting of Abraham Lincoln as well as the signing of the Constitution, which hangs above the grand staircase of the Capitol in Washington D.C.
