This is the only Peerna's work available on IdeelArt that is double-sided, drawn on both sides of the plastic paper by attaching the material to the wall with the artist holding a bunch of colored and graphite pencils tightly in both hands as the artist simulates a free fall downward through space.
The image relates to the frozen waterfalls, with the two-sided image creating a complex resonance with the uneven visage of rushing falls through the ice, revealing the natural inexact rhythm of water in winter.
This work was shown as part of a large installation at the Kentler International Drawing Space in Red Hook, Brooklyn and is part of the series called Falls of Solitude.
Jaanika Peerna is an Estonian-born artist whose work encompasses drawing, video, installations and performances. She creates abstract drawings on thin plastic paper through intuitive physical movements inspired by, and reminiscent of dance.
She lives and works in New York, Berlin and Tallinn. -
