Unlike most genre scenes, this painting is not specific to a holiday or festival, but a painting of every day life (genre painting). There are merchants, monks, and families, as well as a procession of shogun and dignitaries in ox driven carts heading to temples. Scene possibly takes place in Kyoto or Nagoya. Tosa school painting in mineral pigments and gold leaf with decorative raised areas in the clouds on mulberry paper with silk brocade border.
