Japanese Two Panel Screen: Samurai Warrior
-
Description
Standing portrait of a samurai, thought to be Heiji Shigemori. Startlingly similar to a painting exhibited in the 1928 Neiten exhibition. (See b/w image of screen that was shown at Neiten, painted by Master Matsuoka Eiku.) This screen was painted by his student at that time (1928). Mineral pigments on mulberry paper with silk brocade border and black natural wood trim. Signature and seals read: Wakebe Gorei (died 1989)
