Japanese Two Panel Screen: Two Geishas with Gold Butterflies
-
Description
Taisho period (1912 - 1926) painting of two geishas in beautiful, colorfully patterned kimonos. The bright and bold patterns of the kimonos suggest they were made of yuzen dyed silk: a rice paste resist technique developed in the Early Edo period for samurai robes and kimono. Painted in mineral pigments on mulberry paper with gold leaf butterflies and snow flakes.
