Excellent condition, appears to retain the original carved gilt frame
Provenance: Alexander Gallery, New York, 2006. Private Collection
John Henry Witt was best known for his portraits and genre scenes. After settling in Columbus, Ohio in 1862, he had a prolific career before moving to New York City where he exhibited annually at the National Academy of Design until 1899. This portrait of a ”Little Girl” highlights Witt’s talents and ability to capture a sense of emotion and expression from his subjects. -
