Description
"Reflections," a large framed oil on canvas/collage by artist Kathi Robinson Frank, is an abstract composition in atmospheric shades of gray, black, white, orange and reddish-orange with applied threads to the surface.
In her own words, the artist describes the inspiration for this painting: returning to the Hudson Valley in early spring, after spending my winter in Mexico, I began a painting using the colors and textures I was experiencing that were also extremely primal and almost dreamlike. Every morning I would build a fire in my wood stove, gaze at the warmth of the flames and stare out at the fog-wet landscape. This was to become my meditation, my reflection.
New YorkCity born Kathi Robinson Frank began painting at an early age. While in high school, she studied at The Art Students League and pursued her passion at Bard College where she graduated with a BA. Her early influences were Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg and Larry Rivers.
Robinson Frank has shown at the Provincetown Art Association, Byrdcliffe Kleinert/James Center in Woodstock, New York, The Bell Gallery in Rhinebeck and Woodstock, The Wired Gallery in High Falls, NY and Casa Morada in Buccerias, Mexico. In 2016 she had a solo show at P.S. 209 Gallery in Stone Ridge, NY and featured prominently in a group exhibition at the 1stdibs Gallery in Manhattan. In August 2019 the artist was awarded the Murray Reich award from the New York Foundation for the Arts. -
