Signed (l.r.): LW Prentice
Oil on canvas, 9” x 12”
Over-all in fine condition, a few careful touches of inpainting in the sky and lower right corner.
Provenance: Vose Galleries, Boston, MA.
Born in Lewis County, New York where he was raised on a farm, Prentice began his career as a self-taught artist, painting landscapes, although he became known for his still life images of fruit growing on trees or falling out of baskets. Prentice placed emphasis on dark outlining with a concern for textual precision, creating dramatic contrasts.
