On the Balcony - American Scene Female Artist 1938
-
Description
Female artist Louise Lue Osborne paints a classic composition with an interaction of two women and a child soaked in golden late light. The figural group is pushed to the forefront as a picturesque American pastoral scene with goats and birds lies in the distance. American scene painters such as John Steuart Curry come to mind as a reference. Signed and dated 1938 lower right and housed in an elegant frame. Framed size 38.5 x 44 - Best viewed with top gallery style lighting to bring out detail.
Condition: Dirty varnish; frame rubbing; there appears to be two large areas of inpainting (lower left and lower right center) and a smaller area at center to the right of the child's head; some inpainting scattered along the edges; few other tiny scattered spots; difficult to detect further restoration through the varnish under UV light. -
