Pair of Portraits In the Small, Sea Captain Edward Alexander McDougall II (1754–1847) and Mary [nee Ellsworth] McDougall. New York or Connecticut. Capt. McDougal’s portrait bears the signature of artist “W”[illiam] Newton” and the date “1785”. Mrs. McDougal’s portrait is unsigned. Height (stretchers) 14⅛" x Width (stretchers) 12⅛". Oil on canvas, with the original poplar stretchers.
