“Cozy Snowy Winter Fun”

Original oil on canvas painting of a lively snowy winter scene in twilight by the well known New York artist, Pauline Elizabeth Law. Signed lower right “P. Law”. Circa 1940. Condition is very good. The frame is a hand carved gold leaf frame with narrow linen liner that is old put not of the period of the painting. Overall framed measurements are 25 by 30 inches. Provenance: A Long Island, New York estate.

BIOGRAPHY: Born in 1908in Wilmington, Delaware Pauline Elizabeth Law was adopted by the wealthy Law family when her birth mother was dying from tuberculosis in the early 1900's. Her adoptive father was John Grierson Law, 1858-1937 and her adoptive mother was Adelaide Hunter Law (1856-1929).Mr. Law was a New York stock broker. All are interred at Indian Mound Cemetery, Moravia, New York.
Pauline grew up in Moravia NY, but came to New York City to attend the Art Students League, living at the Great Northern Hotel until she moved in with friends at the Essex House.
Pauline worked mainly in oils, but did some watercolor, creating land-and seascapes, portraits, and still lives.
She was a member of the National Arts Club (maintained studio for 25+ years), Pen and Brush Club, and Salmagundi Club. She died in 1998 in Moravia, NY.
