Description
Reiner Heidorn is a self-taught German contemporary painter known for monumental abstract oil paintings that dissolve the boundaries between humanity and nature. Working from his studio near Munich, he has developed a unique technique called "Dissolutio" (disappearance), which transforms microscopic cellular structures and freshwater ecosystems into vast, immersive fields of color—primarily greens and blues. His Bio-Divisionist approach uses thousands of tiny painted dots to create what he calls "passages" rather than representations: portals into living matter that address climate change and human alienation from nature. Heidorn intentionally violates classical oil painting rules, embracing unpredictable reactions and imperfections to keep each work in perpetual movement. He paints entirely from memory without reference images, often creating multiple versions simultaneously. His work has been exhibited internationally across Europe, North America, and Asia—including the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Botanical Garden of Munich, and The Nippon Club in New York—establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary ecological abstract painting.
