Description
Inks, walnut stain and acrylic paint on natural linen by Rémy Allamand for his series entitled Peregrinations inspired by romantic landscapes of the south of France at dusk.
Inspiration: “For this series entitled Peregrinations, the idea was to transcribe memories of walks, visits to places in the south of France. A universe where the expression of these sometimes blurred memories mingles with romanticized images that are expressed via muted tones. A precise moment when it is no longer daylight but not yet quite night. Between dream and reality.” Rémy Allamand
Rémy Allamand explores a twilight and mysterious atmosphere. A massive, almost fortified edifice stands in the half-light, topped by a ghostly silhouette. Two slender cypresses emerge in the background, accentuating the impression of verticality and solemnity. The restrained palette of browns and blacks reinforces the aura of silence and secrecy that envelops the scene, oscillating between dream and reality. On the edge of the visible, the artist invites us to contemplate an interior architecture: that of memory, the sacred and tranquility.
From a childhood lulled by the landscapes of the southwest of France, to the world of dance and then Parisian fashion, creativity has always been part of Rémy Allamand’s life. Today it is with his hands that he expresses himself through sculpted pieces. Series inspired by nature, such as Cliffs, a raw creation, representing the cliffs of the Spanish Basque coast. Flat areas, furrows, cracks. The force of the marine element comes to alter the rock which is expressed by this deep and dense black. Elements in repeated, imperceptible or violent movement which leave traces and sculpt the landscape and our lives. But also landscapes that nature has ceded to Man. An urban landscape with architecture punctuated by various decorations but all coming from a primary element, the intrinsic element of any building. The brick. Suddenly the bricks leave their founding function and emerge on the surface like forgotten and sacred relics. They punctuate the wall support and sometimes take on raw aspects, sometimes more defined shapes, inspired by the architecture of places of worship. Its materials: clay, hemp and lime. Natural and sustainable materials which offer infinite plastic possibilities and allow the experience of volume and the work of textures. Today the artist decides to explore 3D and joins the search for function through the creation of lighting fixtures. Nature and culture, two starting points for the artist. Highlight the hidden and essential element. Reveal the substance in the form. Provided that the sensory approach contributes to learning about the sensitive world and connecting to our environment…. -
