Description
A striking and richly-hued example of American Scene painting, this depiction of a yellow calla lily framed by undulating hills in tones of purple and red was painted by Richard Taflinger. The artist's celebration of his native Oklahoma landscape, executed in the fine detail that tempera paint permitted, is very reminiscent of the work of John Steuart Curry and other masters of Social Realism. Taflinger taught for years at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and influenced scores of art students there. The painting is tempera on board and is signed on the lower edge. Dimensions include frame; the visible painting is 15.25 inches high by 12 inches wide.
